    Cheaper Than Dirt: Caution

    Hi All,

Be sure to count any bulk purchases of ammo from Cheaper Than Dirt!

I placed two orders a week apart for 1000 rds. of 5.56mm M855. When I received them they were 837 rds. and 951 rds respectively; 212 rds. short!

    At .57 cents per round that's $120.84!!!!!!!

Better watch out, caveat emptor. I'm waiting to hear from Customer Service now. I'll let you all know how it shakes out.

I can't believe you paid $0.57/round for M855, that's warning enough right there. Try one of these guys next time:

Thanks for the lead on ammo guys.

Got a call from Steve at CTD and they very readily refunded the difference to my CC. However, had I not counted it out while putting it in stripper clips, I would have been SOL.

Sportsman's Guide was selling it at ~.75C a rnd. recently. YIKES. A buddy bought some and it was M855 that had been broken out in the rain and was not expended, so it is sold as surplus. It showed a lot of signs of being wet.

          Meh...

It should still work okay but I would shoot it up sooner than later. Milspec ammo is designed to be used in all weather conditions.

I forgot to mention that CTD did me the solid of eat the shipping costs as well.

Gotta hand it to them, that was cool.

I never deal with them, I hate that company, I rather pay more and deal with Midway or Sportsman

I am glad to hear they are willing to help you on that! I have ordered from them many times without error or problems. Good to know they may help you.

1lostinspace, I do spend more with Midway at times.....as far as Sportsmans guide they can go to hell, as far as I am concerned! They wont even ship a sling to CA if it is for an AR or AK.......how bad is that?

Althought I used to be a CTD fan, their recent stance on selling ammunition and not selling ar parts to california has made me move on. I only buy from Brownells or Midway now.

I bought two 1000 round boxes of Federal reloads from Ammo Brothers (sealed in a box, so it was not there fault) and both boxes were short the same amount... 17 rounds each.

My guess is that they weight the boxes versus counting the rounds.

CTD did say they pack by weight, not individual counting of rounds.
