reloading kits?

after much research, I ended up buying the dillion 550, I ordered it at turners for @ 350 with one die for 45acp, I was going to pick up some bullets but all they are are 185gr & 250, I want to get started with 230gr since that's what I use to buy, will there be much diffrence from the 250gr to 230? I don't want to crack or break anything from my 1911's.

I just started reloading. The Dillon was very easy to set up. Just followed the directions that came with the press.

Check ebay also. I won my 550 press with .45 ACP dies for $350. I added the strong mount, bullet tray, case tray, and Lee factory crimp die.

Used is fine, the no bs warranty makes sure that you don't get royally screwed if something is up with the press when you buy it sight unseen. Used on Dillon is upwards of 80% of new cost, but there is a definate savings as most sellers will have the add ons that you'll want/need. Patience will dictate whether you get a good or great deal.

There is a video for the 550 as well I recomend you use it. I went with the 550 because of cost when I bought if I had to do it over I would get the 650.

No one taught me before, all I did is do a lot of research online... and then go out and buy a 550, and everything I needed to reload handgun rounds.... and I just learnt by reading this....

The Hornady Progressive is just as good as a Dillon, and cheaper. Especially since Midway has them on sale this month. Item #679-228, priced at $369.99. Plus their digital stainless steel caliper for case length is also on sale for $9.99(#604-242).

Do you own a Hornady? is it easy to set up? change calibers? accurate?

as far as space go, I go the whole garage, as a matter of fact I'm adding a room just for that purpose, I think I'm gonna go with the 650, I'm been looking around and I found use one. Should go ahead with use or get the new. I haven't really check how much are a new one.

I just made a new years resolution to load 45 ACP because I had all but stopped shooting it. with all the small stuff, 1500 bullets and three different powders (10 lbs worth) and primers, the press (dillon 650) with the gadgets (used), I probably spent $1000. the good part is that I just need to buy 500 packs of bullets from time to time when I have an extra $30 for midway.

I procrastinated 10 years, but now cranking out 100 rounds is kind of fun. The bad part is that you become a brass scrounger.

a 50 box of 45 doesn't cost much more than $5..if that even..depends on the bullet, mostly.

BTW, learning would be easier on a 550, but I had someone show me how to use the 650 and I tinkered and read up on things. I didn't want to buy anything twice.

You need a strong place to mount it.

I would be comfortable saying that a strong place is really nice to have, but if you're space-limited like me, I'm actually doing pretty decently with this setup. Folding tool table from Dixieline, a solid piece of wood clamped to the top, and the press (on the strong mount from Dillon) bolted securely to the piece of wood.

650 dillion if you have the $$ if not leave off the case feeder to start with. There are a few other expenses besides the press.

Tumbler to clean cases, media seperator, calipers, scale, bullet puller, and a go no go gauge (you can use your barrel) just to name a few.

You need a strong place to mount it.

650 auto-indexes (rotates everything to the next station at each pull of the handle), while the 550b doesn't. www.brianenos.com has a bunch of comparison links between the two.

The Lee Classic Turret press is highly regarded in other gun forums, and would suit his needs cheaply and fine for .45 and .223. Lee dies also have an excellent rep. To be fair, I have heard lots of bad reports about their Loadmaster progressive press though.

It works perfect for .45 reloads. For rifle calibers Lee Autodisk not consistent on Turret for me (wc-846 poder). Turret rotation makes powder load inconsistent. I am still using Autodisk (double disk) but as single powder load operation. Incosistency +- .2gr. May be Lee Perfect Powder Measure works better
