    Broken Shell Holder

I guess my lanolin mix wasn't good enough or .338LM is just too big. But shouldn't steel hold up against brass? Yes I am using what RCBS told me to use for the case.

I would suggest you try Imperial sizing wax. Works great on large cases like BMG:

Put some inside the case mouth & on the expander ball. Wipe it off with a paper towel when done. Never a stuck case.

I have hornady and it worked great but it did scare me when that first case didn't go up any more and I couldn't extract from my Rock Crusher. I'll get that after I use up what I have. I'm not blasting 100s of rounds at a time, just 25 whenever I get back to that rifle in rotation.

Imperial is what I use for handgun brass, the Lanolin mix for rifle. Maybe you need to add a little more Lanolin. Also, might try progressive sizing, going half way down and back up, then full. I do this with .308 and up size cases, it's a little slower but is working for me.

I guess I don't see what's broken here. Looks normal to me.

Updated, I only noticed it when I was priming, the case tilted sideways.

Ah, I see it now. Wow, never heard of this happening before.

Probably got over-hardened and became brittle during the process.

RCBS should replace that. I use those for bullet pulling. So much better than the grommet caliber rings that come with bullet hammers

I tried using shell holders for kinetic bullet pulling and found that they beat up the brass rim (I had some bullets that were tough to pull).

RCBS has tremendous customer service. Not much breaks but if it does, they make good on it. I've only called them a couple of times and they took my word for the issue, didn't need to see the defective part, just asked me for my address and sent a new replacement.

One time I called them about the spacer washer that comes with the .38/.357 carbide die set. I misplaced mine but I didn't see it on their website and wanted to purchase a replacement. Guy on the phone wouldn't have it, asked for my address and sent me two spacers free.

                          Top notch outfit.

Yes they do, I called them once because Midway sent me a package that had 2 of the same size center punches instead of one for 308 and one for 556. They sent me 3 immediately. In case they break? Ha ha

What number shell holder is that?
There are 3 that are common to use on 338 Lapua but 2 of them will do what you have pictured.
