You could do that, or just sell it to the buyer through a legally licensed ammo dealer. I assume you'd get a better deal if you found a buyer then just paid the transfer fee to a dealer to do the transfer. Selling to a dealer, if you can even find one that'll buy it, would be like trading a car in vs. selling it. Now that I think of it, an ammo dealer probably won't want to take the chance on re-selling ammo. -
As RC said above, find a buyer and meet at an FFL that will do the transfer.
Call your local FFL and see if they are up to speed.
(Going now to see if the CG ammo private sales sub-forum has re-opened yet.)

Can he sell it to someone in another state on the internet and ship it to them?I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.Comment

All depends on whether you're looking to make a profit. If you want to get top dollar it's gonna be tough.Comment

Even when ammo was still a cash & carry people seemed to expect a discount when buying from a private seller vs. a business. I sold a bunch of ammo and anything near the lowest available online retailer was nearly impossible, even tho they were saving shipping & tax.Comment

$5 transfer fee plus sales tax is the rule. No clue how tax is calculated on a private sale. It should be stated value, but don't know. I buy/sell vehicles for $1 all the time to avoid sales tax and it flies because I'm not dealing with a human who has something to loose.Originally posted by EvolvedI see how what I wrote could be misunderstood. What I meant was both people go into the FFL just like if it were a PPT gun sale. The FFL takes the ammo, dispenses cash to the seller, gives the ammo to the buyer, and collects the payment from the buyer. Any applicable transfer fees would obviously be involved somewhere but as far as logistics, that seems like it should be ok.Comment

Wait wait wait, no, that's not how a PPT gun transation works & it's not how an ammo transaction would work either.Originally posted by EvolvedI see how what I wrote could be misunderstood. With a PPT gun transaction, buyer & seller exchange cash & gun, the FFL is there only to conduct the paperwork aspect. The FFL never touches the money. THe FFL will receive some sort of payment for conducting the paperwork though. The same situation applies for an ammo sale between 2 private individuals.---------------------
