My PC laptop has been sucking wind lately and I haven't found a good solution. Tried the usual tricks: virus scan, disk optimization, registry sweep, uninstalled some old junk etc.
I was afraid I might need to ... buy a Mac!
But then I ran my task manager to see what was consuming so much of the CPU - it's Adobe Flashplayer! Most websites these days have little embedded videos that play ads or other "content" they want you to see. The CPU has to come from somewhere, and the videos play at the expense of system stability.
Anyway I killed the process and the machine was way faster. I searched for a more permanent solution and found a plugin called Flashblock. Installed it, and now things feel much faster all the time! No more videos unless I click a button to play it.
