Warning: Do Not Let Windows Install a BIOS Update

What the hell what Microsoft thinking? The fasted way to brick a computer is to install a corrupted or incorrect BIOS update. Pay attention to the updates coming in and don't let Windows brick your computer.

If you want to update your BIOS then go to your motherboard manufacturer's site and follow their instructions.

To be fair the Dell factory updates are pretty hit and miss as well...

You mean in the Optional Updates?

I only use the BIOS updates from the manufacturer

In the early 90s they always said only update BIOS if something seems quirky. If not, don't update. Of course, that was when it was a more risky process.

I wouldn't let Windows install any update that does not pertain to their own OS.

For everything else, drivers for components, BIOS updates, etc. - it's always best to install separate and direct from the manufacturer's site.

was ok using lenovo app to update bios vs. putting on flash drive and doing it in laptop bios. but ymmv... haven't had issues using the lenovo app. but no.. not use windows itself to update bios. never saw that b4 though.

I backup all bios and drivers to have a chance of recovering a device or function. I still reload a 2007 port driver to allow me to access some programmable locks. Every Windows update also updates this driver and removes the old option to roll back the driver.
