    Android phones hit with "virus"

The recent explosion in popularity of applications for smartphones running Google's Android system has lead to an almost inevitable development: a trojan virus targeted specifically at Android phones. On 10th August, anti-virus specialists Kaspersky announced that a new virus - Trojan-SMS.AndroidOS.FakePlaye r.a - was infecting mobile phones in order to send SMS messages to premium rate numbers.

Meh, it requires users to do something stupid.

    It's a non-issue.

      As do most virus/malware infections.

Shouldn't be an issue at this point, just worthy of noting for Android users that the possibility is there, and to expect more on the horizon, and be careful of the apps you install.

It's true. Most crap that ends up on a computer is because the person messed up.

"...that the possibility is there, and to expect more on the horizon, and be careful of the apps you install. "
People, especially IT folk, who don't recognize this deserve to get pwned, and pwned hard. Assuming that you're safe just because you're running Android or OSX or Linux or (OS of the month) is foolish.

          +1.

Glad I disabled SMS on my account. Google Voice FTW.

And users usually happily oblige. Hence the issue

I disagree with this assessment. OSX doesn't get infected, ever.

                Please tell me you're joking.

                  I hope you're kidding.

If you aren't, check out here and here and here.

Heck, just google "OSX trojan/virus/etc." Macs haven't been attacked as much as PCs because up until a couple years ago they were only 15% of a hacker's market. Now, because they are more popular, they have the same security risks as any other platform. Probably even more so because most mac users think, "OSX doesn't get infected, ever."

Nah, I got converted after hearing Steve Jobs say it. WHy would he make it up?

If only you knew how many times I've heard that said though... and then found the viruses on the "old" Macs that "got slow over time, I guess they wore out or something, so I bought a new one". Sometimes I think it's a sales ploy by Apple

You're only saying this because you envy me that I have a Mac, you don't!
