I used to preach that ACDSEE 2.43 was the best program EVER made for FAST imaging of images.
Sadly though it did not see some TIFFs and a few other images. But MAN was it fast and rock solid (usually).
I really enjoyed how it worked, 3MB program that was always there when you needed it.
Then Faststone has been competing but I felt that it is better to have an image program pop up that can view more formats then one that can not.
Out of EVERYTHING that I have tried, Faststone seemed to be the best replacement.
But one thing that ACDSEE never did that Faststone does all of the time is CHOKE on images that are not completely downloaded. I am referring to torrents.
Grabbing a huge wallpaper collection and I will click on an image that the first 3 parts are there but the last part is not, but sometimes FastStone does not want to view, OR when it does view an image, it PAUSES so the program opens up and displays for about 5 seconds, and THEN you can close it, but it takes a second or two to close. Like it is telling me to wait since it is doing something, and then it is done doing something and is ready to work.
I HATE that lag.
XNviewer sucks. Why the hell you would make me have to draw a BOX in order to zoom in is beyond me. Why not just assign it to a button? Like Faststone?
another thing I hate is that if I am downloading a torrent or something with images, an image is there but I click on it to open, Faststone makes me wait. I think it is trying to cache other images before and after in an attempt to be faster, but in doing so it creates lag if those other images are or are not downloaded completely.
Is there a way to fine tune this program? I hate that it does this. It is the one program that was almost the best of the best, but damn... If I could get a better version of acdsee without having to try them all out I would, but let's face it, ACDSEE sucks today. ACDSEE also choked on viewing raw images.
