Looks like Winchester had a regular model of the 1300 Defender in a "Pistol grip and stock combo." I've got one with just the normal stock, and it is probably the fastest and smoothest pump-action shotgun I have ever shot. It is big time reliable and it has the safety in the correct location!

Good info and pics on the Winchester web site under "Historic Products"

I love my 1300 defender. It was the first gun I ever bought. I put a speed feed 3 pistol grip fixed stock, a 3 point sling, and a tacstar side saddle on it. Its a little heavy compared to my Mossberg 500 but considering it holds 3 more shells its worth it. I've thought about getting a top folding stock from ati for it, but I've got other things I'd rather spend the money on these days.

First shotgun I bought was a 1300. Brand new under 200 from a Big 5.

First gun I bought when I turned 18, Big 5 2005. Still sits behind the bedroom door.

I did some research when I got mine (after production had ceased). They definitely came with a normal stock (plastic or wood) or a pistol grip/stock combo. I never saw one that came pistol only. That being said, there were many variants (including a marine version when phosphated internals). It could easily be possible that a model with pistol grip only was requested by Big5.

I have a defender. Pistol grip and all. Straight from the factory. Bought it back in '92? I think. Right after the L.A. riots. Still to this day it has never been fired. Don't know why. It's been loaded, cycled, cleaned and lubed on a regular basis. I just never fired. I have no idea why.

Maybe I'll get around to it some day. lol
