WRONG! A folded stock will put the rifle under 30" overall length, ASSAULT WEAPON. He'd have to put an extended muzzle device on first to insure the rifle remains 30" or longer in its shortest configuration in order to avoid assault weapon status. Please read the law and understand it before giving people advice that will get them a felony conviction.

The Sig 556 doesn't work with AR grips. You have to wrap it and pin the stock. You'll also have to replace the flash hider.

I have a featureless rifle and like not having the mag lock. There are a couple replacements out there for the pistol grip.

You don't need a pin for the stock, you drive out a pin, open the button assembly and insert something that will prevent the button from being depressed. Riflegear even makes a block to stick in there. It goes between the button and spring.

This link shows how to get it open, only you don't need to put any holes in it. Just get the button off and drop the block in.

You can't tell anything has been done to mine by looking at it, and it is 100% reversible.

No bullet button, cant put a bullet button on.
Remove the lower and order another one (one with the AR style magazine release) from Sig. This will not even involve an FFL since the upper is the serialized firearm. You can then sell the lower for a decent price to someone out of state. In fact it'll probably cover the cost of the new lower. Just the swiss stock on that lower will fetch you around $300. BTW, you'll also need to pin the folding stock so that you cannot fold it (OAL must be 30" when in a firing configuration). This is simple to do, just drive out a pin and put a penny or two in the button.

If the stock folds IT IS AN ISSUE! A centerfire rifle that has a length under 30" (which the Sig 556 is under with the stock folded) and can still be fired is classified as an assault weapon in California.

OP, have you tried getting a magazine lock at the links above? Just lock the magazine and you'll be OK, but you already know that. Don't waste your time going back to the dealer or the manufacturer, you'll get nowhere. Ignore those who tell you to call the DOJ, they are being jerks or ignorant. You already know what you need to do, but until you get the magazine lock, make the rifle featureless, which means no flash suppressor, no folding buttstock, no pistol grip. You can accomplish most of this by partially disassembling the rifle to remove the offending evil features from the gun until you can get a magazine lock in place.

You can also go featureless by replacing the flash hider with a muzzle brake, or other non-flashhider device, and then fixing the stock and installing a grip wrap. This is the way I'd go most likely anyway, cause then you don't need to even give a crap about the bullet button and if you have large-cap mags you're good to use them too.

Well, based off what you said in your OP it didn't sound like you had much luck taking that route.

In either case, the FFL is on the hook for compliance.

Screw it, call the DOJ. Something is bound to give that way.

Not that you want to modify such a nice rifle. Add a monster man grip, remove the flash hider and pin the stock and you end up featureless (no BB required).
