Open Carry in a "Free" state.

I use a thigh rig when I am shooting by myself on BLM land in AZ. I will usually strap it on with my G17 on the way to shooting. If I need gas or food or whatever, I just keep it strapped on. It's not a big deal in a state where people are not afraid of guns. I will carry concealed if I am doing other activities, but it is nice not to have to worry about concealing if you don't want to.sigpicComment

Once I get my VA CCW I will!
That being said, I really don't feel like I've gotten much attention. Most people don't seem to notice even. Heck, I was out with co-workers for dinner several nights in a row and they didn't notice it the first 2 nights, even though they knew I was bringing my gun here to OC.Comment

Where are you? Northern Virginia is our liberal center, so if someone makes a fuss, it would probably be up there.Never initiate force against another. That should be the underlying principle of your life. But should someone do violence to you, retaliate without hesitation, without reservation, without quarter, until you are sure that he will never wish to harm - or never be capable of harming - you or yours again.

Few people open carry here because every law abiding citizen can get a CCW if they wanted one. Did you happen to go to the Richmond gun show this weekend? There are a lot of regular normal people, men and women, there looking at and buying guns. Many of them buy to carry. The only people I've seen open carrying are hunters and out of state visitors.Comment

Throwing out the Lobby Day at the State Capitol and other VCDL sponsored events, I think I have seen about 5 people open carrying in town. 3 looked to be under 21, which means they can't get a concealed permit.Few people open carry here because every law abiding citizen can get a CCW if they wanted one. Yes, at the VCDL events there are likely to be people who will open carry. What amuses me a bit about the OP is that he's making such a big deal about open carry in VA, when many people carry concealed, which in CA and other liberal states is more difficult to do. Well, at least before open carry was banned in CA.Throwing out the Lobby Day at the State Capitol and other VCDL sponsored events, I think I have seen about 5 people open carrying in town. 3 looked to be under 21, which means they can't get a concealed permit.

That was my point. Coming from CA to a place where OC is allowed is kind of an odd shift in reality. Having never experienced it before it is different. Getting a CCW in VA, if you're a resident, is easy and most of my friends out here do so. Not really a big deal as much as it is something that I find an interesting experience. Were I a resident here I would in all likelihood CC like everyone else. If CA were as easy as VA to get a CCW, I would certainly CC at home as well.Yes, at the VCDL events there are likely to be people who will open carry. Spent about 4 hours wandering around there yesterday. Lots of OC and presumably CC as well.Few people open carry here because every law abiding citizen can get a CCW if they wanted one. Head apparently in butt...
OC was legal in CA.
What banned it was pure over reaction by citizens as well as police.

I agree. The anti's have done an excellent job of brain washing the sheep voters of this state. They have managed to convince the majority of sheep that all gun owners in California are potential criminals and that they have some form of mental illness if you like firearms. From the Rulers elected, down to law enforcement, gun ownership must be discouraged or made so difficult that gun owners will leave or move on to other hobbies. And it is succeeding in California. The only real simple way to counter that is for every gun owner to take some one who has never fired a gun out shooting to demystify the anti's brain washing. It's the only way. I also agree with what you suggested, that every gun owner in California should go and see what it is like in a free state. Quite an eye opener how firearms are viewed. The California gun owner will be shocked to learn that firearms are looked at as just another tool, nothing else. No big deal.
I have another week and or so to go and will be changing cities/locations this weekend for the second week of my trip. My advice to anyone from a place like California where we have all been indoctrinated to feel that OC (or even owning a gun) is BAD and will land us in jail; take a trip to a free state, exercise your 2A rights and experience what it’s like when no one seems to care that you are exercising your rights. Make sure you read the states OC and CC laws, understand them (Do your homework!) and be prepared if you happen to get stopped by local LEOs while either on foot or while driving, but I encourage you to do it. It’s an eye opener and has changed my whole view on gun ownership and made me realize more clearly how absolutely ludicrous our state laws in regards to firearms are and how bad the liberal prejudice against firearms in California truly is.Comment
