    New Toy

Yesterday my wait period was up and I took my new Blackhawk .357/9MM home. I've been shooting it all week at the range and it's a bit of a change for a semi-auto type (like me) but it's a good shooter in all 3 calibers. Shooting 9MM (separate cylinder) out of a revolver built like this is kinda fun.

That is a cool SA. Do you have to use moonclips when shooting 9mm?

I've owned one in 6.5 inch for some time. It shoots 9mm quite well. It is a very good candidate for a "if I can only have one pistol" scenario.

Nope, the 9MM cylinder has a little step built in so the cartridge headspaces just like a semi-auto.

Nice picture! Is that just in your backyard, or frontyard?

It's in a backyard planter next to the pool decking.

Depending on your hand size and esp if you're runing hot loads, you might enjoy changing to a Bisley grip frame. I love my stainless Bisley Blackhawk (.45LC, 5.5"bbl, unfluted cylinder).

My SuperBlkhawk (44Mag, 4.625" bbl) has the standard Blackhawk gripframe and not nearly as nice to shoot esp w/hot loads.

However, my new 50th Anniversary Blackhawk (.357, 4.625" bbl, I LOVE IT) is based on the new smaller frame that came out in 2005 (like those on the New Vaqueros) and is essentially in the same formfactor as an orig. Colt SAA (Single-Action Army). This gripframe fits fine in my hand.

Diff'rent strokes for different folks, perhaps...

I do wish Ruger would put smaller-diameter bbls on their smaller caliber SA guns (357/9mm BH, Vaquero, New Vaquero, etc.) It seems that their external diams are same for 357, 44, 45, so with the smaller 357 bore these guns can be a bit front heavy, balance-wise when compared to a 45LC version.

But Bill, the claw grip "spins" better.

Sweet pistol. Gotta love the interchangable calibers.

Here's mine. A Vacquero with .45lc and .45acp cylinders. Sweet little gun.

                    Now your'e talking....

I also own a 4 5/8" .45LC/.45 ACP Blackhawk. Loads of fun. I loaded up some serious Long Colt loads and they are beyond .44 Mag intensity. Still the .45 ACP loads provide accuracy and cheap shooting.
