    Transporting firearms in a pickup?

I've been searching and it's getting late, so Im going to take the short cut

Im planning on going shooting with both long guns and handguns. I drive a crewcab truck with a toolbox in the bed. I need to know if this would be the legal way to transport the firearms. The toolbox is too full to lock all the firearms in and put the ammo in the cab. So will this work?

    1) All long guns in seperate cases, unloaded, laying on the back seat of my truck.

    2) Handguns unloaded in their factory cases, stored in the tool box in the back of the truck. Ammo can with all the ammo in the tool box as well. The tool box will be locked.

Would this be legal or do the two handguns need to have locks on the cases?

Or could both, long guns and handguns lay on the backseat and the ammo locked in the toolbox in the bed of the truck?
May God have mercy upon my enemies, because I won't.

Sounds good to me as long as that toolbox in the bed that will be holding the pistols is locked.

The long guns are fine as long as they are unloaded... as in they don't have to be visible, laying open on the seat. You may cover them or place them under the seat.

The handguns would be fine inside the cab as long as you locked them in the cases unloaded.

standard disclaimer, I'm no lawyer and this isn't legal advice.

    This may also help. http://ag.ca.gov/firearms/travel.php
