What Jesse Denome did is no different than what 1,000,000 salesmen do everyday all across this country. They find a prospective client, take them out to dinner, buy them presents, treat them nicely in hopes to win over their business. It's called sales tactics. $22k over a course of time is hardly a bribe.

Taking a client out to lunch/dinner, sending them a gift basket under $100 or giving them tickets to a ball game is schmoozing. Paying off a credit card 4 times for a total $19,200 is bribery. There is a HUGE difference. Maybe if he took the client out to dinner 15,000 times, he'd be okay.

I built my Mountain Bike from the ground up, buying parts I wanted for it... approximate costs without getting my receipts out.. about 4k. The frame alone was 1600$

Sales tactics are one thing. We ALL know that doing a little sucking up keeps the wheels greased with customers/wins them over. hell our sales dept goes and schmoozes our customers but thats their job. but thats private industry and its allowed. What he did is a bribe BECAUSE he did it to government employees. Absolutely NO different than offering the money to a LEO to let you out of a ticket.

Thats not that much. ( granted I dont know much about bikes) but a buddy of mine does a lot of triathalons/iron man stuff and one of his bikes is about 7K. totally custom made for him and that thing is LIGHT. i can pick it up with a finger and hold it. I put it down really slowly when he told me the price.

Dude, you're a shooter, this is a hobby where a bolt action rifle for $4,000 isn't really obscene. Every hobby has it's extreme when you start looking at the top end and ignore the off-the-shelf product in a lot of stores. There's $1,800 paintball markers, $1,000 pens, $30,000 watches, $2,000 RC cars, $1,000 pocket knives, $900 desktop videocards(that's just the videocard for gaming, not the rest of the system). When you start talking about custom things, or collectibles no longer in production prices can go through the roof.

Our most expensive bikes currently sit at $17000 for a Pinarello Dogma decked out with Di2 and Reynolds wheels, an $11000 Pinarello Graal (The only one in America right now), and a few other really expensive custom bikes.

Yes, decent bicycles aren't cheap. A full suspension mountain bike(and not the $100 walmart garbage) can easily run $2500-$5000 and up. Some of the front suspension forks alone can run $500-$1000. Then there's road bikes that can get even more expensive sometimes.
