KNX 1070 AM had William 'Bill' Bratton on the radio about 7:30AM this morning. Bratton is former LAPD Chief and is now an International Security Consultant.
Bratton was asked to comment on protecting officials and the Tuscon shooter. Bratton clearly said this was an isolated incident and sufficient resources do not exist to protect all officials all the time. Bratton also said that County Assembly people are just as 'Hot topic' as US Congressman and candidates for office are just as vulnerable as incumbents. If Congress gets protection, so should they. Most of this verbage I agreed with.
Bratton was than asked to comment on the ability of congress to carry guns. Bratton than began to 'Soap Box' about the insane approach congress is taking to Gun Control. In his mind, CA is still 'Common Sense' in regards to GC, but over-all Congress is way too lenient.
Bratton was born in Boston, MA and was an NYPD Police Commissioner before coming to LAPD. I guess his views on GC are no surprise. He is obviously the elitist 'Only Police Officers should have guns' advocate, without saying as much.
Tomiekia Johnson is a CURRENT (EDIT: I previously stated 'former') CHP Officer just charged with murdering her husband. She has been on 'Desk Duty' since the shooting. She claimed self defense because she alleged her husband abused her. Her husband was not LEO, he was an amateur bowler who worked in a Barber Shop. It took 2 years for the LASD Investigators to discredit her story and bring charges. I guess she is living proof that only Police officers can be trusted with Guns.
