    Del-ton .223 RIA

Recently I ran across an add for a 16" dti .223 for @ $800. I am building an AR (JD lower) but I'm finding myself getting very impatient. Its been a while since a sent some rounds down range but I'm very familiar with the M16A2. It seems there are more options for AR's than there are for Chevy's now a days. SO, I want to build good, but I don't have a baseline to know what I perfer or don't. IS the dti a good average firearm for the price?? Unfortunately money is a factor when I build, but I do know the difference between low cost & cheap. also does anyone have any JSE Surplus coupon codes they seem to have pretty good deals.....

DTI is "ok". It's a good plinker gun. Probably a step below Stag or RRA in quality, but I would still take a DTI over a DPMS.

Well since you already have the lower(assuming its complete already) I would just save up and get a top notch upper like BCM or LMT. They both can be had for around the $500+ range but are well worth it! Buy once cry once!

I've got a 16" Del-Ton heavy barrel upper in 5.56 that's worked flawlessly for probably about 1000 rounds now. Bought it off their site for about $550, I think, and just put it on a JD Machine lower I already had built from one of my local shops. If you're more familiar with the M16, make sure to get yourself a two stage trigger though otherwise it won't feel right.

I get emails from Del-Ton every once in a while about 16" uppers selling for around the $400 mark though, if money's still a factor.

Del-Ton's a solid platform. The weapon I got familiar with back in the day was an M-16A4, and the AR I have now feels, shoots, and handles no differently.

          Buy a BCM.

That doesn't make any sense. The M16 has a single-stage heavy trigger just like any factory AR-15 trigger. M16's don't ship with two-stage triggers.

Only difference is an M16 has a go-fast mode.

That's funny, because I can tell you from first hand experience there are at least 200 M-16A4's in the Disney barracks (Charlie troop, 5-15 Cav.) armory at Ft. Knox right now that pull at two stages before they go boom.

Manufacturer? Manufacturer of the two-stage trigger?

That's not factory or milspec, so they were probably added on later for some reason.
