Is this a legal means of transport?

i dont like hauling around my big rifle case when i go shoot because most of the time i have to hike in. i discovered that if i seperate the upper and lower of my ar it fits in my condor 3day bag. i also put my steyr m40 in its locked case in the same compartment. do i need to have loose ammo and loaded mags in a different compartment? while transporting this in my truck does it have to be in the bed or can i have it in my back seat?

    Looks fine to me.
Never initiate force against another. That should be the underlying principle of your life. But should someone do violence to you, retaliate without hesitation, without reservation, without quarter, until you are sure that he will never wish to harm - or never be capable of harming - you or yours again.

Does the bag need to be locked or just the pistol case?

Looks like you've got that lower locked up pretty good. I'd say that a locked pistol case in there as well would be fine.

Just for kicks, I might keep my ammo in a separate bag in the car. Something that I could just toss into that backpack when I get ready to hike in somewhere. Might be "overkill", but I would not want to test the laws with an over-zealous officer if it ever came to that during a traffic stop.

I was told a loaded mag= a loaded gun in the eyes of the law. I know it sounds stupid but I've changed the way I transport just because of that. Better safe than sorry.
Take an ANTI shooting. They might enjoy themselves!!

No. Loaded mags, in the same case are fine. Just not inserted in the guns. Cannot be attached.

Back seat, front seat, dash. Its all fine, as long as the pistol is locked up in a case. Unloaded long guns are free to move about the cab unlocked.

All of this assuming that the rifle is not a registered AW.
