been at work and got other things going on..wish i had the time to browse the forum all day. yes, i am in sacramento but i would rather not say the name of the company (at least until i get my gun back). i know the owner of the shop is a member on here and out of respect, i am going to let the entire transaction go through before giving a final opinion of the experience. i spoke to the owner today and he said that the gun was "basically done and to call back tomorrow to come pick it up." ...fingers crossed !
i posted this here to get some opinions, not to start drama and ruin a reputation. i appreciate everyone who wrote back and will keep everyone posted on the rest of the transaction tomrrow!

Don't care how "busy" a shop is, 8 weeks is unacceptable.

My AR has been at Noveske for 10 months now. Eight weeks isn't that bad if they're really busy.

Let's see . . . took the gun in May 6 . . . today is June 17 . . . 31 days in May . . . . makes a grand total of 42 days. You were quoted 4-6 weeks. How exactly is 42 days close to 8 weeks? Why did you start to pester them at the 3 week mark when they quoted you 4-6 weeks at the very outset?

Can I hazard a guess that it's Norse Armory?

OK, so I took him at his word... but this is what, 5th week? Still within their quote... So I retract my statement. If they are within their estimate, suck it up and be patient.

Don't know gunshops in Sacto, only dealt with one and don't have much good or bad to say about it, just my impressions.

Hope you get what you expect out of the deal, and I hope they stay within their estimate.

calling 6 times and sending 2 e-mails when you haven't even reached the quoted time is a bit excessive.

i sounds like you expected them to give you updates as the work progressed and also to remember you by name...that's just not realistic. any time they spend calling you is spent away from the bench working on someone's gun.

i gather you haven't had much work done on guns. if you go with reputable gunsmiths, they'll have a backlog...4-6 weeks is a very quick turnaround. while this work may not fall into the same level as custom work, the old rule of thumb was double the time they quote and forget about the gun until they call to say it's done. i have a gun that has been at the smith's for over 2 1/2 years...he send me an e-mail every 6 months to let me know it will be done "soon"

Really? How many shops do you think have guns that are complete awaiting payment? A lot of shops will take half up front and the other half upon completion. Then I guess the shop can call and if payment isn't received they can take the gun as payment but now they gotta move that gun.
It's a 2 way street and if they say 4-6 weeks bet on the 6 weeks at the minimum.

I think you are just getting impatient. If he woudl go past the deadline he gave you then ok get mad but to call and pester the guy is uncalled for. THEN coming on here and b******n about it when the gunsmith was completely within his allotted time of finishing a job? jeez man if I were that gunsmith I wouldn't want you as a customer. Woudl be easier for me to give you the gun back and say have a nice day go somewhere else ESPECIALLY after you try to smear my work ethic over the net to a bunch of gun enthusiasts who are probably existing or possible future customers

No, that's not being treated unfairly, but prepare to wait for custom work, and inspect it thoroughly before leaving the shop with it.
