Sleeping with/next to a loaded firearm?

Just wondering what people's thoughts are on this.


Let's say you are camping out in the open, or in a small tent, and you want to keep your rifle/shotgun nearby. How do you do it safely?

When I'm in the field, I sleep with my M-16 tucked inside of my bivy sack. If you plan to sleep with your rifle, make sure that the pistol grip and those protruding surfaces are facing away from you so that you don't accidentally hurt yourself by accidentally rolling over and landing your hip on a charging handle, front sight, magazine well or any other part of the rifle that could hurt.

Lol I thought I was crazy for sleeping with a loaded gun in my bed. I keep it holstered though so I'm less likely to grip it or anything in my sleep.

Dont sleep next to a loaded gun, but Im a light sleeper, and I can cover the distance to the AR in about 2 seconds, then another 5 to open the case and load it.

I keep an XD-40 loaded with Winchester SXT's in a fast access handgun safe within arms reach..... I would like to have the 870 close at hand, but I have little ones in the house and no safe way to do that.

I keep my XD-40 sub in a holster I have attached to my headboard.(No , my wife doesn't mind, she just props the pillows over it when she makes the bed ) When camping with the Boy Scouts I usually just keep my small NAA mini in .22 magnum. Regular campouts usually just take whatever pistol or rifle I happen to feel like packing

Two steps to the Mossberg, one step to the buckshot. As soon as I am able to get a handgun, I will have myself a much quicker defense option. I have an excellent place to mount a holster out of sight, but very easy to reach for.
