Are less lethal 12 gauge rounds now weak? They don't seem to work

A buddy had rubber buckshot for his 12 gauge and I can't get him to understand why I believe these are dumb for individuals to have for home defense.

I saw the north Hollywood bean bag fest and I cannot tell if the LAPD was missing or if the bean bag rounds have had the FPS reduced by lawyers.

Are the new bean bag rounds lighter, lower power or is this just due to winter clothing?

And I love how a BMW drove around the police line and realized they were about to become a berm for a dozen LAPD officers rounds to impact into....

Using any of them is stupid. If you accidentally kill someone with them you’ll probably get a murder charge.

My guess is that, if you shot at anyone, with anything, it would be charged as assault with a deadly weapon, or something worse, no matter what was in the gun. Even a beanbag round can cause death or serious injury. If that's the case, then you might as well make the shot as sincere as it can be.

There have been no changes to 12 Gauge less lethal ammunition in the last two decades.

LE agencies are starting to gravitate towards using 40mm less lethal ammunition due to the long known deficiencies of 12 Gauge less lethal ammunition.

Under CA laws, discharging a firearm has always been considered assault with deadly weapon regardless of the type of ammunition being used.
^The standard to determine if less lethal ammunitions use is justified is the same as using standard lethal ammunition.

Fill it with rolled up job offers; works even better, they scatter faster from that than bean-bags or pepper-balls alone.

Also most less lethal options work by pain compliance...and someone high on drugs may not feel pain

Where they're probably more effective is when idiot protesters are in a mob and don't believe cops will shoot. When they hear the boom and feel the sting is when they change their minds and go home. That's the theory anyway.

Yup. Very effective. Which is why the Democrats passed a bill (AB48) almost completely banning them during riots; they don't want anything interfering with their people when THEY do an "insurrection."

Nothing is 100%. This is why less lethal is usually backed up with lethal force products.
