Call fud on no license mark49. License required for take of hogs. Private land meaningless hogs are wards of the state. Some narrow exemptions for landowner depredation . License required but landowner or agents of landowner do not need tags and can donate meat. Been hunting hogs since 1979 and have helped a rancher in Parkfield on few depredation hunts.

just curious if you guys used depradation permits or killed hogs under the encounter law. we found using the encounter law normally being easier for us with less interferance from wardens etc

We used to lease the Taylor Ranch on Turkey Flat Road for many years until Bub passed away. His widow got nervous that someone would get hurt and sue her, encouraged by a local professional guide who wanted exclusive rights to hunt her ranch, so she did not continue our lease.

And yes, hinting licenses are required on private property unless you are hunting under a landowner's depredation permit.

As HOGDOG mentioned. NO license required for a landowner, OR A designated AGENT OF SAME. Protecting crops or stock.

Even protected species like mountain lion. Pew Pew ... Bye Bye .... No Problem.

Back then it was a depredation permit. Later they allowed encounter while depredating.

                  Back When?

A landowners right to protect his property and stock, predates written laws.

ETA .... That RIGHT, also negates any laws or ordinances, that prohibit discharge of a firearm in Counties or Incorporated Cities.

I have my license for years I go quail and rabbit, have never gotten into hog, but I have no one in my family who hunts. It’s either pay to play a lot of money or seems difficult on public lands just looking over the numbers listed on ca fish and feathers

We need a depredation permit for several areas around Los Angeles, otherwise known as a CCW.

Maybe Brianna Kupfer would still be alive.

I looked into hog hunting in my local area. The cost of the hunt was $900 for one hog, plus more if you need help butchering the hog. $900 will buy a lot of steak.

We got a letter from California Waterfowl Association announcing they are sponsoring a bow hunt for wild hogs in our surrounding hills which are parts of private land and east bay regional park.

As usual, California takes an out of control, multi-billion dollar infestation that other states have sensibly declared, "Go out and eradicate as many as possible, little to no regs" and tried to turn it into a profit center with lots of restrictions and limitations.
Yes, the legislators really are that stupid. And in a state with probably the most agricultural land, as a percentage of land extant, in the whole country. Am I wrong or is the entire mindset of Sacramento to examine a subject, research the most common
sense and practical solution, then do the exact opposite of that? This state is boringly predictable as to how any challenge is addressed by the politicians, just do whatever seems the most insane and counterintuitive, then call it a day.

Maybe with the coming bacon shortage this will be a non-issue
