Stupid Rangemaster Rules

Anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that 'my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.'

This is a Ruger Precision Rifle. Bolt action with detachable mag
I really think you’re right and he hasn’t seen a bolt action rifle before
Lol@even a Democrat. I must say I was shocked he wanted that safety onI have a few Remington 700’s that lock the bolt from being lifted while the safety is in the on (rearward) position. I know that those are an older design, but there must be thousands like that.
Once the bolt is open, and particularly if it has been pulled to the rear of the receiver, it should be obvious (even to a Democrat) that the weapon cannot fire in such condition.Comment

No need to get upset and hurl trivial insults. It only illustrates your affinity to act in a juvenile manner when you dont get your way or someone contests to your way. Its unnecessaryI never said I didn’t put the stupid safety on. I did. I followed it up with a question about the 1911.
I followed his rules up until the point it would actually affect my target results.
At that point I pulled the bolt, took out the mag, put the rifle on “safety” and found a real RO.
So yeah, if you would have kicked me out for following your rules then you’re just another one of those power tripping range officers. Actually you’re worse than this guy and frankly with your attitude you shouldn’t be able to be a crossing guard.
You should NOT be a RO
Listen I was simply responding to what you said in your initial post you saidThat doesn't sound like a question with good intent to me. It sounds like you were being condescending and childish which you made very obvious in your reply to me that you have the propensity to be when you don't like something. I still would have kicked you out. At the point of your condescending rebuttal that you claim was a simple question, I would have lost my trust in you to handle a firearm in my presents and the presents of those on the firing line and follow the instruction of the person that was there to maintain safety and I would have kicked you out. Period. Saying that doesn't come easy for me either because in the time Ive been an RSO. Ive only ever had to kick one person out of the range. Its not something I will like to do, but above all to me. Trust is my biggest thing when Im standing their with a bunch of stranger who all have guns. If I determine that I cant trust you to be safe and follow the instruction of the RSO, I will ask you to pack your gear and leave. He wanted the safety ON when I was away from the rifle. Mag was out and bolt was back. I asked what do you do with 1911s when the mag is out and the slide is back. No response. MORONLast edited by Diversity210; 08-24-2020, 4:16 PM.Comment

I am an NRA RSO and we are taught that the house rules at every range are the governing regs. If the house rules say that removable magazines must be removed at cold range status, then that is the rule. If the house rules say safeties must be on when the range is cold, then that is the rule. Generally, an RSO does not make up the rules, other than common sense or obvious situations that could be dangerous but are not covered by the rules. If a firearm like some bolt actions cannot be operated or opened with the safety on, then obviously allowance must be made.
I, too, have seen RSOs being jerks. But they are still the authority on the range. We have a requirement on one range i belong to that says each shooter must sign in at the club house and wear their ID badge. It is a liability and control issue - signing in at the register constitutes the waiver for members and guests and is a requirement of our insurance, and wearing the badge ensures that only active members are shooting and their guests are accompanied by a member. Guys have given me grief about the badge issue - but it is not MY rule. Our range is not open to the public except for formal events and access is via a gate code - people can follow others through the gate before it closes, etc.Comment

I was done shooting and Had one tell me I could not pick up my .45 brass, I told him try and stop me,
I told him if he laid hands on me I would put him in the Hospital.
This was after I was told I could pick up my brass by the guy at the front counter, The guy just stood there and gave me the death stare.Comment

There's probably nicer ways to handle that situationI was done shooting and Had one tell me I could not pick up my .45 brass, I told him try and stop me,
I told him if he laid hands on me I would put him in the Hospital.

I have an idea. All of you that want to bash the shooting ranges(and their rules), do not agree with their rules, want to whine about something about the range---just do not go to the range. Novel idea and then both sides can go about their business and not be all butt hurt.
I know for a fact most ranges open to the public around me are closed. The one open is a member/public range and is an outdoor rifle and pistol shooting and at times there is a wait to get to shoot.
We get all sorts of people there. Good one and ones that cannot follow any simple rules even when told several time. Ones shooting rifles without any sights(yes AR's) and cannot understand why we tell them to stop when they are sending rounds over the backstop. Some even feel we are unfair and some may even whine on the internet about it.
So bottom line is that it is their range and their rules. If you do not like it do not go.A 30cal will reach out and touch them. A 50cal will kick their butt.
