    Re-anodizing ar pistol lower

    Hey gents,

I have a AR Pistol that I bought during the good ol SSE days. Its a Spikes lower with the punisher logo and markings filled in from factory. I hate flashy looking lowers (it was the only thing the dealer had at the time) and recently I've been thinking of sending the lower to get re-anodized. My only concern was it has markings on the right side of the lower stating that its a registered pistol. If I get it re-anodized am I good to go as long as I carry around the copy of the FFL paperwork?

Markings are printed or engraved? If printed, why not get someone like TAR HEEL to engrave it before anodizing or cerakote stuff

It's etched on very lightly. That's definitely not a bad idea and i'll consider it but I would rather have less markings on it.

Honestly, I'd just carry the papers if concerned. The chances of running into an issue are slim

That's what I was thinking. I always carry around a copy of the paperwork with me inside the case.

I dont see the need to reanodize unless you are trying to change the color of the type III

I'm sending in the lower to New Frontier Arms who is a licensed FFL thankfully.

It’s also going to change it dimensionally but probably not enough to affect function to be honest. In theory the engraving will stay the same depth because the acid they’re going to use will etch away the oxide/metal there also.

Are you planning to have them grind out the punisher logo and blend the area before they re anodize it? The etch they do to strip the ano isn’t going to remove that engraving.
I don't plan on filling in the engraving. I just want to get rid of the color filling. Personally its kind of obnoxious seeing a bright white punisher logo & selector markings when I look at the pistol.

                        Just color/paint over it.

Just paint over the white with black, it will disappear. You might be able to remove the white from the engraving, depending on who painted it with what.
I thought about just filling it in but the anodizing service is so cheap I would rather just send it in. I'm not sure if Spikes still fills in the engravings but it definitely came filled in from the factory like these lowers.
