Visiting ca with a handgun

Wondering what the legal steps are for bringing my handgun with me while visiting family in ca. 10 round mags only. What about traveling. Locked in the truck ammo/mags separate from the weapon? I’ll only be bringing my nv ccw handguns. No at/always pistols or threaded barrels or cans
