Yes, most of them have been modified to fire blanks but at least there's two or more of every custom gun in case one isn't working on the movie set.

It'd be a tough choice which one to pick if you could only pick one from the warehouse.

I guess I'd go with the Jurassic Park movies SCAR-16 rifles that were fully loaded with every option including the grenade launcher.

Of course that gold-plated AK that can actually live fire is also a possible choice.

In the film True Lies, a mac 10 is dropped down the stairs....

They used the stock as trigger. So as the gun bounced down the stairs, a hit on the stock would make it fire.

Evidently it took hundreds of takes


Now - it would all be green screen

I noticed that even though this video was recently released the man giving the tour mentions the Jurassic Park movie with Chris Pratt was showing that upcoming summer.

I think that means the video was made earlier even if it was released recently,
but I've never seen it.

I agree, they have been using rubber cast guns (with mold usually made from real guns) for a long time.

Green screen and digital animation is just so noticeable, especially if your gun person.

I appreciate it when a director at least has someone who knows something about guns helping make sure they keep consistent and get it right... even if it is only firing blanks.

So how does one modify a gun to shoot only blanks? Still need a firing pin, right? Just do something to the barrel / feed ramp to make it impossible to chamber a cartridge with a bullet? Just curious.

To mod a semi or full auto rifles to cycle using blanks, a restrictor is added to the muzzle to increase the barrel pressure enough to cycle the action. Restrictor can be external if the barrel is threaded. Otherwise the barrel is drilled and tapped for a set screw with a hole in it. Restrictors are tuned to the gun and ammo by using restrictors with different sized holes.
Removing the restrictor makes it functional with live ammo.

Indianapolis Ordnance makes full auto blank fire only non-guns (BFONG).

Didn't even get far enough to think through making it cycle Was thinking how it could still fire blanks and be safe in the event someone mistakenly tried to load a live round! I'm guessing improperly loading a live round with a restrictor installed would be a BOOM event then.

But...but...but... guns go off all the time when they're dropped. It's why we have the roster!!!!
