OP, take a look at the San Angelo Sure Shot Bench Rest. I use these myself and was out this past Saturday shooting my AK's, .357 lever action, 45-70 lever action, and my .338 Lapua Magnum which i shot at only 100 yards off this rest but yielded a 3 shot group of less than an inch and all touching with a $24 Walmart Tasco scope. The rest is easily adjustable, stable as can be, plus you can add a round weight through the height screw or bolt a heavy plate via the legs. The cost is minimal for what you get. Big Five carried them, however, i do not know if they still do? By the way, i fill my saddle up with walnut media so if you reload, sandblast or have pets that use it...borrow some lol. I also have the CHAMPION PREMIUM SHOOTING REST but have retired it to just a sighting in rest/tool...this rest works for shooting but has some jump.

I just use a proper loop sling and my range bag or rolled jacket as a rest. Don't learn to shoot only on a fixed rest or you won't be able to hit much of anything when you shoot in less-than-optimum conditions.

20lbs of rice, 2 pillow cases and some gorilla tape. If you shoot in the rain then add heavy mil trash bags to water proof the rice.

Fill each bag/pillow case to the levels you like and blast away.

Instead of rice, go to hobby stores-sewing stores and get, doll fill, they are little plastic beads, no worries when it rains.

I have Caldwell DeadShot Shooting Bags--Front and rear. They are nicely made, fairly compact, and work well. The price is right, too.

                        This works.

But I have another two different rear bags for different rifles.
Been gone too long. It's been 15 to 20 years since i had to shelf my guns. Those early years sucked.
I really miss the good old Pomona Gun Shows.

Leather sling and a shooting glove.
                          Keep it simple!

If your stock has a front sling stud why not use a bipod? Bipods work fine from a bench as well as prone.
Hit the 9 and 10 ring at 1,000 yards with a Harris bipod and this Savage model 10 308 shooting 168g Sierras.
