Maglock or Featureless AR?

You really need to check out the AR maglock Gen 2 and Kingpin. Other than opening the receiver ALL functions and features of a free state rifle are retained. That includes double feed clearing and bolt holdbackI don't have any experience with maglocks. Surely someone that does will answer your question.
I think you misunderstood my post.
What I was expressing was that I prefer featureless because it preserves most of the actual functionality of an AR15, and that different featureless set-ups can be better suited to match different shooting disciplines.
Conversely, a mag lock system can be utilized to preserve a cosmetic goal, like when building an M4gery, but compromises the actual functionality.
That being said, featureless may be a better choice for the OP's MK12 Mod1 build, because shooting from a rest or bipod makes a grip wrap less intrusive. Also a replica MK12 Mod1 without a forward vertical grip only needs a fixed stock and a grip wrap to be CA compliant.MESSAGE ME FOR ARMAGLOCK COUPON CODES!!!!

I will have to look into that too. Interesting what people come up with. A gun store owner once told me its better to have featureless rifle because some cops are not that smart and do not know all the gun laws and might think that an AR with a maglock is an assault weapon. Made sense but i doubt that regular joe cops will now prioritize checking ARs.Comment

Featureless is the only way to go, thank god we still have that option for now. Enjoy it while it lasts.
I tried the AR maglock gen2 and thought it was an absolute waste of money. Totally pointless IMO. I hated it.
Once you get used to the standard mag release on a featureless AR, theres no turning back. Its like a revelation. There are so many good featureless options out now, theres really no excuse at all to handicap yourself with a silly maglock.
Vagparca grip
Strike featureless grip
Sparrow grip
Monsterman grip
Exile Hammerhead grip
Thordsen FRS-15
Hera CQR
Option zero
JT silent stock
Using a maglock is premature anyway. There will be plenty of time for that nonsense if and when featureless gets banned. All semiautos will probably be in the next ban so that would include fixed mag as well. Again, there is really no good reason to fool around with maglocks on an AR when featureless is still legal. Its simply a no brainer, featureless is the only option right now.
An added benefit, many of these options are less expensive than the Maglock solutions and ambi bolt release options work.

The CalGuns answer: both.
I have a featureless AR and .308 AR, a RAW, and am building a "fixed" mag AR using the Freedom Fighter and Juggernaut pin.
On the featureless side, the AR has a fin grip and the .308 has a Sparrow Dynamics grip. Personally prefer the Sparrow.Comment

Glad to hear it! Sounds like you need another one for your AR-15.

I might be able to help you if we can link up our schedules. I installed mine no problem, im very mechanically inclined. Im also up in Carlsbad.
Youll love the Hellfighter and FF combo. Im thinking of doing it to all my rifles now because of how well it works. You will have to grind down the freedom fighter pin a little to get it to clear the mag button while the bolt is held back.Comment

It would be interesting to hear from some of the bigger gunshops about which one is more popular.
Anecdotally, I've been in RifleGear talking to some of the customers and it sounded like it was overwhelmingly some type of maglock because they like the features.Comment

So far I have one featureless and one fixed mag using a Compmag.
The fixed mag is just a range gun so I don't have to concern myself with quick magazine changes or reloads. And on those rare occasions I take a trip out of CA, the magazine can be easily removed and I can shoot a fully functional AR-15.
I don't mind featureless too much. I went with a Thorsden stock. I can still reach the magazine release but I will need to get an ambi-safety if I want to work the gun with just one hand.Comment
