    Off-roster transfer question

My buddy is moving back home from Florida. I'm thinking I can convince him to sell me one of his pistols. What would process entail?

Does he have to register it first? Or can he ppt it to me within the first 60 days of moving here.

Yes.. he has to register it to himself with DOJ. Once that is done he can do as he wants with it and sell it in a PPT to anyone he wants to. Here is to hoping he has a large collection of off roster guns...

      He is "moving back".

Did he relinquish his California residency or just move temporarily for an education, etc.?
Give up DL, no longer pay taxes here...
      (Several threads on this.)

If yes, he can sell to you.

If not, transfers can be tricky legally.

      Hope you get something good.

He was stationed out there for the last 8 years. Established residency out there. I got my eyes on a 320 x carry

He needs to have a Ca ID, before anything can happen. Once he has that he can either send in the New Resident form or he can sell it. He has 60 days to either file the form or sell, but with DMV's incompetence, I guess hope for the best on being able to accomplish the the ID part.

This is correct. Since he relinquished his CA residence and is re-establishing residence, he does not need to register it before selling. Once he gets his CA ID, he can sell it assuming that this all happens in 60-days.

OK Are you sure he does not need proof of residence for handgun sale?

Cool, so get his ID, along with car registration or utilities bill and I'm good to go!

Yes for a handgun sale. And he will need real id. Must take birth cert or passport and social security card or w2 to dmv.
