    So....going to my first GSSF

Its a big birthday year for me and I've always wanted to shoot in a competition. The GSSF looks like a good way to start. My internet research has been informative.

    I have:
    4 mags per
    A folding chair
    Someone for support and company
    Membership and money for fees

Any other info I need would be appreciated.

I was thinking about doing the stock match with the g19 and the heavy metal with the 21. Is this too much to do for a first timer?
I dreamed of owning a (insert off roster gun here)...

Oh yeah....then the earth splits open with me on one side and the (off roster gun) on the other. Then appeared a large red-glowing pit with gavin newscum, diane frankenstein and governor "brown the drain" at the bottom of it, waving their pitchforks at me.

    Start with a single gun.

I agree; stick to one the first time. Usually they have Glock armorer there as well to check your equipment. They also used to give you free stuff if they had it. The last time I shot the armorer upgraded all my Gen2 mag followers for me.

I shot my first one with a stock G19 in 1994 and was happy to finish 4th, just out of the prize range. I used six 15rd mags in that one, and one 15+2 mag.

I shot the next year but had a Bar-Sto barrel so moved into another class. Actually did better with the stock barrel, although the Bar-Sto fitted barrel was definitely more accurate.

Lots of good support at GSSF events.

I would bring a pack lunch and water too, the chair is a GREAT idea. Lots of hurry up and wait : )
You will likely spend the whole day there until 3pm.

I wish I had started with GSSF and competition MUCH MUCH earlier in my shooting career. Fleeting youth being self conscious and now I am making up for lost time.

I say bring as many guns as you want and tell the RO that you are a first timer, in my experience ROs have always been very accommodating during my formative years. At least in the Kali / Nevada matches I have gone to.

Advice, bring as many mags as you have and load them up to 10 rounds the night before. After each stage ENSURE you have 10 rounds in each mag. A separately marked barney mag to load the 11th round is advisable.

          Good luck!

edit to add: good call on utilizing the Glock armorer - which is a privilege of your membership they will replace all your springs (and any worn small parts) if you wish it.

I want the experience to be fun so I am leaning towards one gun.

So, if you sign up for both guns in a match, do you shoot both in succession, or do you get back in line for each gun?

The informal policy is that you can shoot up to 3 guns back to back. If you are uncomfortable you can go to the back of the line or let someone in while you rest a round, if you want.
it is common courtesy that if you do shoot guns back to back that you have mags pre loaded and not load on deck and hold up the line.

In the end its your call. Have fun. : )
BTW every entry you have gives you an extra raffle ticket for free stuff, including a pistol.
