Similar situation: A few years ago, I competed in Metallic Silhouette. I sometimes used my Uzi. During a break, a man & his son (around 10 yrs old) naturally thought my Uzi was "cool," & he asked if he could handle it. I said, "Sure, if it's OK with your dad." His dad yelled, "NO!" I took his dad aside to chat with him. I said: "You are missing an opportunity to teach your son gun safety. Sooner or later, he will have access to a firearm & if he never has a chance to learn safe habits, he will be MORE likely to have an accident."
I was surprised that his dad agreed.
After checking it, I handed it to him, while explaining "Safe Direction" & "Finger off trigger. He immediately pointed at a nearby hillside. I intentionally walked in front of him & he immediately swung the muzzle away from me - & I never explained that scenario. His dad was really surprised....he had been underestimating his son. I told his dad the kid is a fast learner.

WTH, you intentionally walking in front of his muzzle was teaching him safety? I don't think you're qualified to teach safety.

Of course I am. Why wouldn't I be? If it means I can communicate with more people and potentially prevent another incident, you damn better believe I'll be proud of being multi-lingual. Keep trolling, I'll keep eating cookies.

Then move on. My point is we need to be adamant in educating and supporting new shooters. If you're doing that already, than kudos.

Then why mention the ability to communicate fluently in 3 languages?
Why mention the incident at the firing range?
Why mention specific ranges that you're avoiding?

The election drove many people to buy guns who otherwise wouldn't have.
The Chinese (who cannot own firearms in China) are buying guns and ammo in droves.

Safety is never a "mind your own business" state of mind. It's all of our jobs, regardless of setting.

op thanks. Your post is the first I've heard that something tragic happened at LAX today. From some unhelpful posts, I can tell I am not alone in getting the first indication of this from you. I understand you don't have further information about it, I'll now be asking and be on the lookout for more information.
