No more gun free military bases

On November 18, the Pentagon issued a Defense Department directive that will "allow Department of Defense (D0D) personnel to carry firearms and employ deadly force while performing official duties."

The times they are a changing...

The DoD recently released guidance that allows U.S. military personnel to carry privately owned, concealed firearms on base.

Other than some recruiting offices it doesn't look like the directive will change much. The requirements are pretty restrictive and ultimately leaves the decision up to the base commander. Some soldiers are already carrying on post with their CCW.

I think the DoD should mandate their own CCW classes and procedures for liscencing on all military bases ,,, open to ALL ranks who apply.. The Federal CCW when issued would be valid in all 50 states no matter what local county law or state regulations are in the entire state... A federal CCW is what is needed in these times of terrorist activities... Period... Having trained military members in the malls and other high priority targets at all times,,, DESPITE the local anti-gun regulations... is and can be tied to national security... And if the Federal gov't cannot pass the 50 state rescipracity act,,, a 50 state Federal CCW should be open to all who apply,,, and streamlined for current CCW holders.... Am I missing anything ???.. Cheers...

Seems like a good and reasonable policy.
