Amazon won't ship 1911 grip to my location.

I bought a Kimber 1911 in 9mm. I have big hands so I wanted a larger grip. I looked on Amazon and found a Pachmayr grip I liked. When I tried to order it they said they could not ship it to my location, so I ordered a Hogue grip instead which they would ship. Does anyone know what is going on?

Pachmayr must be scarier. Or they thought it had that thing that flips up.

No idea, what city are you in? There are some cities I have seen that online sellers won't ship too (LA and Bay Area IIRC) what law would prevent grips though is beyond me.

I'd have gone to a different vendor and bought my first choice

The same thing happened to me once when I was ordering an oil filter for my bike. When I call Amazon they told me that was the seller's restrictions not Amazon's.

Sounds like you were dealing with a third party vendor.

Do you have a link to the item?

yup, Amazon has millions of SKUs in their system, some from Amazon, some from 3rd parties. if someone mismarks a product as not being CA-legal, then you get what the OP ran into. sometimes its even a vendor-restriction as in they have distributor-enforced area-restrictions so as to not have vendors stepping on each other. Its not always a anti-CA gun issue..

Do you want an AOW or C&R SBS/SBR in CA?

The Pachmayr probably has a 30-magazine-per-second clip. Nobody needs that many magazine clips per assault round.

Has to do with seller restrictions. There are tons of sellers on Amazon, egay, and gunbroker that refuse to sell to California. Some for political reasons, others because they are unsure of laws in California. In the end it's their loss if they don't want your money.

Amazon is a mega-behemoth organization in which often the left hand does not know what the right hand is doing. If you contact them for assistance in sorting something out, you get "Dave" in Pakistan, who though incredibly polite, will be completely ineffectual in even understanding the issue, let alone resolving it.

We sell a ton of stuff on Amazon and have for years but it can be very frustrating if something goes wrong or an item gets improperly flagged. Definitely let the vendor know, whether it's a 3rd party seller or Amazon themselves.
