    I NEED HELP

So a couple of years ago I was in the Army and stationed in Alabama.

I was always a California Resident. I paid California taxes, my car had California Plates, had a California Drivers license. Well when I was there I got into shooting and purchased 2 rifles and a pistol.

I HAD a .50 bmg and a nice Russian AK-47 with a milled receiver. And still have the HK USP .45

Well I packed this stuff up and started driving back to California. Well when I got to Vegas I got scared and did not want to bring the 50 bmg or the AK into the state because I was pretty sure I could not keep them. So I took a bath and sold them to this gun shop outside of vegas. But I held onto the pistol because it was on the list and ok to own in California. I got taken for a ride on the BMG and the AK but I was trying to do the right thing That's water under the bridge. Come to find out I could have installed the kit on the AK and kept it, but what ever.

So on this pistol. I bought it through a 3rd party. Guy in my unit. Was done above boards with base commander approval and all. Now I am trying to build a 80% lower pistol and in the course of researching how to legally do it I am worried I am breaking the law on the pistol I brought into the state. The registration form is pretty clear about new California residents. I was always a resident. Just bought the pistol in Alabama. It was a legal purchase in Alabama. but then when I came off of temp duty station I just came back to California with it. I don't really want to register it. I have purchased other pistols in the state since then. I have the hand gun cert, background check approved, and all that. I just never told anyone about the pistol. I honestly did not know about the requirement till 3 min ago.

Do I have to send in the form and 19 dollars? Am I exempt?
