What would you get? (moving to CA in about 3-4 months)

I currently live in a very gun friendly state (not Hawaii anymore), but due to work, am being relocated to CA.

My head is spinning with - what I can take, can't take, and must modify to take...

in addition to that, I see on the forum that there are a lot of 'OFF ROSTER'??? weapons that in a few months I will no longer be able to purchase.

It is my understanding that as long as I own the weapon prior to moving to CA (and it is not a banned weapon), I can bring it with me and register it. (Can I bring my SIG MPX w/brace if I add a bullet button???)

With that being the case, I have an ever expanding list of weapons that I want to pick-up before I move.

I don't want to miss out on any that I may regret not picking up before the move, so any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

I have a decent collection, but definitely not complete.

Which weapons that are not on the roster in CA would you recommend I purchase?

Thank you for the help and suggestions!

    Aloha!

I bought a Grand Power K100 X-Trim before heading back to CA. I had never heard of it before, but this thing is fantastic. The Sig P320 is really nice too.

1911 bare frames are a must, cheap to buy and good to build up later on.

I've seen claims that a brace is likely a state legal issue, but you still see plenty of them around.

At a minimum I'd pick up a few AR lowers and register them as pistols. 1911 frames are a good idea too. Maybe pick up an AK pistol if you're ever gonna want one.

Nothing until you get here to avoid jumping through all the hoops. There're enough of them any way without adding any extras. BTW, my condolences for having to move to this Communistic state. I sincerely hope your stay will not be long term.

1911 frames & AR lowers - Excellent idea!!!

That won't break the bank either

Thank you Spegull, Sneaks and Junkie, I appreciate the good suggestions.

Barrage - I am new to CalGuns since I have never needed CA advice before. It was a shame my 1st post was received with such hostility.

I was hoping CA, and the CalGun community, would at least be a friendly place. If I really had other intentions, I could have simply looked on the for sale section, or backpage and sorted out the biggest margins. However, I have the opposite problem, I can't give any of mine up

Here is my current want/wish list - please feel free to add more suggestions:
Sig MK25 FDE, Glock 29 (bear country), HK vp9, Glock 30s or other compact .45

Added to my list: 1911 frames & AR lowers - (does anyone have any good suggestions on suppliers / models - I never bought a bare frame before - sounds like fun to build up my own) Why should I register the AR lowers as handguns???

Weapons I think I should still be able to get in CA, so not on my list to get now:
SCAR 17, Daniel Defense carbine (.300 blackout)

Thank you again to all any other thoughts are much appreciated! My wife on the other hand would prefer no more suggestions

            Aloha

I apologize for that. I think you just caught him on a bad day.

As to his point, I would suggest to my friend that we want people to bring off roster guns into California so that they will thereafter become available to us via PPT. I have no problem with somebody trying to make some money by giving me more choices. The profit motive is a good thing if you really think about it. Without it, there would be a lot fewer guns available. Making money is a positive, moral, socially-constructive activity that is done the best by those who best serve their fellow man.

Make sure the AR lowers are not banned by name. Spike's and Anderson are two commonly available ones that are CA legal. I think Armalite is one of the banned by name brands to avoid.

Not unlike the Dark Side of the Force, once a lower is registered as a rifle (rather than a pistol), forever will that dominate it's destiny. There is no going back. Pistol marked/registered lowers are therefore more valuable to have. There is no problem with making a rifle (of legal length) out of a lower that is registered as a pistol as far as I know.

Run from CALI as fast as you can. Its bad and getting much worse. Look at all the new laws coming.

If you MUST buy what you can and sell later. Dont mind the haters theres lots of Cali guys screwing over Cali guys on here. Good luck you'll need it!

AK registered pistol receivers. You will double your money. Where else could you get an instant 100% return on your money.
