so i've been looking to get a couple barrels for my sportsman 58 12g, i love the gun and has worked flawlessly for me. i see that the barrel is the same as the 870 except that you must drill the gas ports for the 58. is there any other option, i want to get a new barrel at least for steel shot as well as different choke and i dont have the tools to drill gas ports so i'm trying to track down actual 58 barrels anyone know a place by chance?

Good luck. If you find some place selling SPT 58 barrels, let me know. I have looked pretty hard for a barrel for my 58 that will accept screw in choke tubes. The only info I have found is the same as you, get an 870 barrel and drill gas ports. The problem with drilling the ports, is they must be drilled at an angle. That makes for a tricky setup on the drill press. No government deprives its citizens of rights without asserting that its actions are "reasonable" and "necessary" for high-sounding reasons such as "public safety."
A right that can be regulated is no right at all, only a temporary privilege dependent upon the good will of the very government
officials that such right is designed to constrain. -
You might try talking your 58 barrel to a local machine shop to see if they could drill the holes on a new 870 barrel.
If they can, I wouldn't think it would cost very much.
