    I failed. Remington 870 fore-end replacement

So I purchased a Blackhawk replacement forend for my Remington 870 but when I went to put it on, the tube wouldn't stick all the way out. I don't think this forend will fit so I'll need to get a different one =\ I didn't realize the tolerance differences between the forends. I picked up this 870 about 6-8 months ago and never really liked the original one.

I'll need to do more research next time. I've attached some photos to show the size difference but I didn't take any photos of the actual tube portion where it won't stick out far enough for me to screw in the nut.

    Here's the original

Are you sure you put it all the way in? Should fit... There's not different length tubes..

It will fit. Some of these need a little material removed from where the action bars fit into the forend. Take a little off there and you get a tight fit, might not even need to if your push the forend on the tube assembly hard enough. That is what is stopping the threads from sticking out far enough to get the forend tube nut on.

I'll ahve to try again. It was really tight and I noticed that I would have to shave off parts of the forend. I know for sure it won't slide in as easily as the stock forend.

Thanks for the tips. Will report back!

I have the very same Blackhawk forend installed on my wife's 870, and it fit without problem.

As Aippi advised, sometimes some forends have a tight fit and need a little elbow grease (and/or fine trimming) to work them in.

Also 'just in case', do make sure that this forend is indeed for the Remington, as Blackhawk also makes one for the Mossberg.

          Regards,

Here's where I had to trim my Blackhawk forend to get clearance for the forend nut to tighten down. The ribs running down the forend might be causing a very tight fit as well. However, this was on a 1300 Defender. I used a Dremel with drum sander.

I had the same problem with the fore end that came with my NRS stock. I wasn't comfortable modifying the fore end because I don't have any of the tools so I ended up getting the Hogue instead and it installed with no problems.

I agree with above you have to shave some off. This goes with Mossbergs also, I installed both with blackhawk too. drummels are a big plus

OP, I had the same problem and thought it was due to my 870 being an older model. Blackhawk forend doesn't fit fit properly, I wouldn't try to force it. Just get another forend that actually fit.
