right handed, left eye dominant. problem?

Interesting question. In shooting clays with new shooters it is easier to teach them to shoot left handed than it is to overcome the cross dominance in my experience.
I would be curious what experienced HD/SD instructors would suggest. -
I'm right hand left eye, an instructor figured it out when I was a wee lad of seven or eight learning on a .22LR rifle, so I practiced both right and left, which I recommend.
However, in a pinch I'm still righty. I'd practice R and L in any event, never know when an injury or available cover may come into play ..., that said, practice shooting the way you plan on shooting, right-handed and eyes open, until you're facile, then practice more. Maybe get ghost rings or a reflex sight; good luck.Comment

Makes sense to practice with both hands in case of injury to hand I'm used to.I'm right hand left eye, an instructor figured it out when I was a wee lad of seven or eight learning on a .22LR rifle, so I practiced both right and left, which I recommend.

This is what I do. It may not work for you, but works for me.
Lay your right index finger along side the 870's receiver.
Point the shotgun.
Pull trigger with middle finger.
If it is a slug or you need to be really accurate shut your left eye and aim.Looking for a 3" Magnum 870 $200-$250ishComment

I have the same issues. So, I just start shooting with my left side with my pump shotgun. I haven't try shooting clay yet, but for paper target, it has been fine. Might take some time to get used to it. For me, it took 2 times to the range, I was shooting fine with both eyes open. I practice mounting the shotgun on my left side at home whenever I get a chance.Comment

I am Left eye dominant and right handed. Very good for hitting baseballs, not so good for skeet. I shoot right handed right eyed with a patch over my dominant (left) eye. I shoot rifle right/right and am very good if I close left eye. I shoot pistol good with either eye and am very good from the weak side (left) and left eye, almost ambi. I suck at trap and am lucky to shoot 20 on skeet but I am pretty good with an 870 at CQB. Try a patch or put tape on the dominant eye and try that.Comment

If you are going to use a hallway clearer for HD does it really matter?Comment

Oldest simple fix on the planet, put scotch tape over your left eye glasses, your right eye will take over. Takes a few trys, but it forces your right eye to focus on the front sight, target and rear sight can be fuzzy, only front sight matters.Comment

Lot's of people out there are blind in one eye. Why not just train yourself to always shut your left eye when you shoot? It works for me. I've also heard that tilting your head to the right will help, but I've never tried this.Comment

"Use the Force..."

...also a left eye dominant/right hander here
. With the pistols or short barrel SG, I try to shoot half the time left handed...when shooting long gun (rifles or SGs), I'm strictly lefty.
