Question: How Often and How Much...

I've been curious, so I thought this would make a good "general" topic.

How many shotguns do you own?
How many times a year do you shoot it/them?
How much ammo do you put through your shotgun(s) in a year?

I've found that largely shotgun shells cost about half as much as rifle ammo, so consequently I shoot my shotguns twice as much more than I shoot my rifles.

I only have 1 shot gun, a Remington 870. I probably put a good 750-1000 rounds thru it per year. Shot gun ammo is pretty cheap, and there is also nothing better then letting a friend, new to shooting, shoot out a couple slugs, and watch their facial expression! How about you?

1 to 3, 3 gun matches a month practice 2 or 3 times a month. 175 to 300 rounds a month. With that much shooting you'd think I'd be better.

As for how many more than a couple.
I move slow but I make up for it by shooting poorly.

When I hit the lotto I'm only shooting factory.

I think you meant birdshots vs centerfire ammo ?

I found buck and slugs are as expensive as some match ammo.

Yah, slug and 00 can be pricey. I wouldn't consider it the norm in terms of ammunition a person uses. Its kinda like because my AR has a 1:7 twist barrel I can use 70+grain match grade ammo, but I don't because that stuff costs too damn much.
I would think that most enthusiasts would be wise enough to not go out and blow through a few boxes of slugs when they could have gotten their fix with a box of federal target loads.

          Federal/Winchester four pack (100)=approximately $22
          Most 55gr .223 (20 rounds)=approximately $11

These would be my answers Chuck:
How many shotguns do you own? - 8
How many times a year do you shoot it/them? - A least 5 days a month. Used to be 2-3 days a week but finances haven't allowed that this year.
How much ammo do you put through your shotgun(s) in a year? - A lot. Last year I registered just over 12,000 targets in competition, and if I add practice and some bird hunting, probably close to 14,000 rounds. Not sure about this year, I haven't looked at my target count but I know it will be down from the year before since I have cut back this year do to economics.

            I had three currently two

            Mossberg 500 home defender.
I shoot that the most. its a range gun deer gun and in a pinch a bird gun

            Mossberg silver reserve OU

I only use it during hunting season so abotu 3-4 months out of the year.

I woudl say that I go through anywhere from 800-1000 for the 500 and maybe 100-150 for the OU

I shoot a lot less shotgun than I used to.. I used to shoot twice a week, 3 to 4 rounds of skeet, trap, or 5 stand every time I went. I managed to get myself up to a 22 D classification in Trap, and had about a 21.5 bird avg for skeet. 5 stand I could reliably down 80% of the clays thrown. Sporting clays runs about that percentage give or take a few birds.

I've lately been shooting more action games with my scattergun but starting at the end of October, Duck and goose season open and I might be going almost every weekend that I can.

As far as rounds downrange, I figure about 1500 ish mixed rounds per year, depending if I am working up a load for hunting or working up other specialty loads (buck/slugs/steel).

                Once a month.

~125 rounds per person per outing.
                ~2 people per outing.
                ~3,000 rounds per year.
3,000/ year seems like a lot. Do you shoot trap or just fire rounds down range?
