    Choke tube ID?

So, I came across an unmarked 12 gauge choke tube in a box o' junk at the swap meet today. I had no idea what it fits, but for $1 (wrench included), I took a chance. I have a Remington and a Mossberg, and it isn't one of those. I also have a Browning Invector choke tube, and it does not match that either. Winchester is the same as Mossberg - so that's out, too.

All I know for sure is the ID of the muzzle end is about .725, it is flush mounted, made of steel, and the threads are on top at the muzzle end. It also has four wrench notches (which seems pretty standard). I have a thread pitch gauge, but none fit exactly.... the closest one that almost fits is 24tpi. Metric, maybe?

Here's a pic, in case that might help:

No markings at all, as far as I can see. I looked it over with a magnifying glass, and there's nothing that I can discern.

based on what you said it was not, i am pretty sure it is a mobilchoke. the optima/optima plus are 2 3/4". they work for beretta/benelli. i am not a choke expert lol but there are a ton of these out there

Looks a lot like Beretta Mobilchoke. I've got several which use those, so we could match it up if desired. Don't have my metric pitch gauge at home.

A tiny bit finer than 24 TPI would be 1 mm

Thanks for the offer. I'm in San Ramon, so if it is convenient for you I'm curious and would love to know what this thing is.

              Let me know.

I’m in San Ramon this week albeit short week. I can bring a Mobil choke in for comparison.

If a dime won't go in end it is full choke if just slips in then modified. Old rule of thumb.

A dime falls all the way through, with room to spare.

It is mod or cylinder bore. Likely cylinder bore/skeet

You can look through all the Carlson choke tubes on their website and see what matched. http://www.choketube.com

This is the Mobil choke like mentioned above. 0.725 would make it a CYLINDER choke.

OK - final answer..... it is in fact a Beretta Mobilchoke. JagerDog was kind enough to take time out of his day to meet with me, and compare it with his chokes. Mine was an exact match with his.

Regarding what specific choke it is remains unclear. My choke measures .725 ID, and JagerDog's IP and skeet choke tubes measure .720 and .730 respectively. So, mine falls in between those two.

Beretta choke tube inside diameters can be found here:

Mobil Choke - Cylinder is supposed to be .723
It's interesting that the Skeet European is more open than Cylinder at .730
                            Skeet USA is .718

FWIW, that skeet choke at .730" is factory choke with no "euro". So was the IC @ .720". The IC came with one of my Berettas while the SK choke likely did not.

I think Bossman's choke had 5 notches which would indicate Cyl. They didn't look as distinct as mine, so perhaps it was a copy. Or maybe Beretta forgot to stamp it.
