    1187 reliability

I have a cz 920 that gallery of guns has replaced multiple times because after 200- 500 rounds it wont extract shells, they are willing to put the purchase price too another shotgun. I can get a Beretta a400 for an additional $1000 or an 1187 for tax and dross. I have Beretta shotguns and know they are reliable but am not familiar with 1187.

I’d skip any new manufacture Remington. I had a guy offer to sell me a 1 year old 1187 for $150. I think something was wrong with that gun.

^^^ This.. I'm with NaClAddict. I had a 2006 870 pump, and that thing was a POS. If you can get an older one or one that's been tested, then by all means get it. Otherwise, stick with the Beretta.

The 11-87 is very reliable. It is the same as the 1100 so it has all the same parts but the barrels on the 11-87 are pressure compensated. So you have the same reliability as the tried and tested Remington 1100. I am factory Certified on the 11-87 so I challenge anyone to explain what about it is not reliable and why, instead of simply telling you that it is not reliable. Unfortunately it is easy to give opinions on forums whether one has the knowledge to back it up with facts is a different thing.

I have an 11/87 and it is a good gun with one caveat. It does not cycle Walmart Winchester bulk bird shot. The Remington rep I spoke to told me to switch to Remington ammo birdshot... that has worked fine but of course is not as widely available nor inexpensive.

Buckshot has always worked reliably in mine which is perfect because it's intended as a HD weapon not a bird gun.

Why does the Rem work and not the Win bulk? The answer is printed on the top of the box of shells.

I have a 11-87 Sporting clays gun with light contour barrel, now i've don't shoot buckshot or slugs but that aside I have never found anything that it won't cycle reliably.

What's printed on the top of mine is the manufacturer and the gauge. Of course I've had it in an ammo can in the closet for several years, they may be printed differently these days. (caught a huge discount sale years ago and stocked way the F up).

The Rem works because it contains more powder, and thus produces more gas pressure, which does a better job of cycling the action reliably.

For the record I did not mean to imply this was an issue that my gun and my gun alone has... the Remington rep told me it was a widely reported issue with this model, and I have no reason to doubt him on that.

I grew up shooting a model 11-48 in 20ga, I swear that sucker had a 30" barrel my Grandfather used it for duck and geese.
I now own a 1100 and Wingmaster, for 20 years +.... I have NEVER, EVER had one NOT cycle. I love these shotguns.

Then of course I have read not so good things about the 870, lets hope Rem is on tkp of this.

I too have the 11 48 it will only cycle high brass , it has the hard to find ribbed barrel, I bought it and a clean 870 Magnum at Little Johns . Very happy with these .i had to use the 11 48 as a Single shot and had to extract the shells after each shot on the trapline

That sux, I only shot low base out of it. I was a kid and it was the only shotgun I had so I used it for Dove and quail. Being a long barrel and full chock, made it hard to hit those little birds

They ran out of stock on 1187 in 20 ga so looks like I will get the A400, didn't want to spend the extra money right now. I talked to CZ to se if they had made any improvement to the extractor, they acted lick they had never heard of the problem then told me that the 920 with a 3 inch chamber was not designed to shoot 3 inch water foul loads
