    10/22 80% receiver

    Hello;
    I am currently wading through all the threads here. I was wondering whether or not I can find out what all the rules and regulations are for finishing a 10/22 80% receiver.

    1. Do I need to register this thing after I finish it in 2014?

    2. Where can I find out what all the regulations are concerning this. After all, it is a .22LR and from what I can tell, a lot of the AWB stuff is exempted for .22LR. I am not certain about hand guns though.

    I know that the 10/22 receiver can be purposed into a handgun. from what I can tell, the receiver appears to be a grey area and it really depends on the final configuration.

    Thanks!

    1. No it does not need to be registered even in 2014 when rifle registry starts at the time of sale

    2. Start with the flowchart that can be found at the top middle of every page. Then look up the Penal Codes that it is referring to so you have read it for yourself. Remember the law tells you what you can not do, not what you can do.

    2.b. While Rifles in the AWB are listed as semiautomatic centerfire so they do not include rimfire. Pistols it says semiautomatic pistol which includes both rimfire and centerfire.

    3. Yes you could make a 10/22 80% into a "Charger" pistol but since those have their magazine located outside the pistol grip it would fall under the AWB and need a to have a fixed magazine commonly done by a magazine lock.

    Just making the 80% a completed receiver does not make the receiver a pistol. Like you said it depends on the configuration it goes thru. Just make sure to have any configuration devices for legality on before you make it. And make sure it is properly configured. For a rifle thats not hard pretty much OAL of 26". For a 10/22 pistol fixed magazine and no ability to affix a stock generally are the concerns.

      making the firearm using the finished receiver through a specific configuration...

      that was what I was looking for.

      Thanks!

        Riiiiight but thats not what we are talking about.
        OP is asking about 80% lowers... Just like an AR lower 80% can be made into a pistol.
