    HK416 22, your recommendation??

I searched the threads and didn't find any info so I started a new post. With all the craziness that is going on I wanted to get one before the stuff really hits the fan. I have been a fan of HK forever. I read that these are really not official HK's but did see a review on youtube saying the thing had 1000+ rounds put through it and it was still running strong. My question is does anyone have one and can swear by it. I trust you guys more then some dealer. I can pick one up for $650. Sad thing is I put my 5.56 STAG together for only $200 more but that was before this guy took office. Thanks for any input.

I was a day late picking one up at a local shop in my area, I would say if you can find one by all means buy it.

It is a solid, solid firearm. It is in no way shape or form a "cheap" 22. It uses AR parts and has some heft to it. Great trainer for ar's.

Finding extra mags on the other hand are a pain in the arse.

      IMO...
The H&K/Umarex HK-416.22 and the S&W M&P-15/22 are the best dedicated .22LR AR style rifles on the market.

Even though the H&K/Umarex HK-416.22 is built by the same people that make the Colt/Umarex M-16.22/M-4.22, it is the better of the two. It's a product improved version that corrects the shortcomings of the Colt/Umarex.

Because they are both made by Umarex/Walther, the H&K/Umarex and Colt/Umarex use the same magazines.

can you upgrade/change out the upper with them? I was reading that the bolt release is cosmetic and does not act as one like on the 5.56 and other versions.

Negative on changing uppers with standard AR uppers. I bought the "Colt" version when they first came out. 11k+ rounds and it was still shooting tight groups at 50 yards. Just remember, exterior may look like an AR but the working parts are not. Still a good 22 rifle imo.

I have owned and fired and like the umarex guns but quality wise they dont hold a candle to the Sig 522 in my humble opinion... my sig shoots dime size groups at 50 yards and eats anything... is not ammo picky at all.I can't say the same thing about my hk/umarex...I sold the hk btw.

have shot a few k rounds though my HK and it eats any ammo i have shot though it. I would look on line and get it cheaper and have it shipped to your local FFL. might save you a 100 bucks or so.

If you want a high quality .22, buy a MLR22 from Magnum Research. Carbon fiber barrel, high quality receiver, super light.

If you need it for training, same battery of arms, then there are some AR style rifles, but you pay too much relative to the performance.

The HK is overpriced. You can buy a lot of parts for a new AR build for that much. Just get a Ruger 10/22 and use the rest of the money for AR parts or a good optic. I bought a Sig 522 and while it is very reliable, it is not nearly as accurate as my 10/22 breakdown.

since it really is for cheaper ammo and I would like to start training the little ones, I am going to stick with a 10/22 or Marlin

The Sig 522 eats anything and is very accurate. I love my STG 44 and
it is very accurate and not too finicky ammo wise but Stingers don't
feed well. I like the look of th HK and would buy one for the right price.

I love my HK! Granted, it is the only .22 I own but I am really pleased with it. People ask me every time at the range about it. It looks the part and it does not have a bunch of lightweight plastic and flimsy parts. Comparing it to the 10/22 I've shot, I can safely say that I would have been happy had I spent the money on one of those instead. The reason I went with the HK was because I wanted the AR look and feel. Bottom line, if you're looking for a high quality .22 and want the AR style you will be happy with it.

I have a 416 22. It's fun, but its temperamental when its not clean. If it gets dirty it will continuously fail, and its a pain in the dick to clean because it does not break down like a normal AR.

1,000 rounds is nothing for it. I don't think I have ever cleaned mine, and I haven't had a misfire yet after at least several thousand rounds. It seems to eat any ammo and be just fine. The magazines are nice and smooth--easy to load.

I think the people saying that it is temperamental must be doing something incorrectly. However, $650 does sound a bit steep.
