Cheap Thrill
I picked up a new Phoenix Arms HP22A with the 3" barrel a while back. I was aware of its reputation for cracked frames, pot metal and redundant safeties. The gun does not function as reliably as some of my other rimfire handguns but it's not bad (1 ftf out of 70 rounds fired during one session). It's not the first, second or even third rimfire handgun I'd recommend for purchase but I wouldn't exclude it from the list.
For me, the attributes outweighed the potential issues. I defeated the redundant safeties and mag disconnect. Now it functions like a normal semi-auto handgun. The HP22A has a nice weight to it, fits well in my hand, holds 10 rounds in the mag and is fairly accurate. It's a nice compact gun and if any issues occur the HP22A has a lifetime warranty. I was so satisfied with my gun that I purchased a used HP22A Deluxe model. It came with a 3" and 5" barrel, 5 mags, Hogue grip and a plastic case.
