    Rabbitt hunting

    Hello Rim fire friends.

I wanted some fried rabbitt recently and was floored by the price per #
$ 7.95 per # average 3 # per. or $24.00 per rabbitt. There used to be signs all over, frying rabbitt for sale. Not any more. Has the cost of raising them gone that high or disease or what?I wish I could find a good hunting place for them. 1 brick of golden equals 1 rabbitt.Go figure.

There used to be a rabbit farm on Fairfield that sold farm raised rabbit. Can't remember the name but it was out off of Tolenas Ave.

No, the cost of raising them isn't that high. I was told by a butcher I know that rabbit is considered to be "haute cuisine" these days and a delicacy. The same is true for other "cheap" meats that I grew up on. Beef Tongue, that used to cost pennies now goes for over $13.00 for a two pound specimine. Oxtails, which were also a cheap cut when I was growing up go for 10-12 bucks a package consisting of about 5-6 sections. All these once cheap cuts are now considered "gourmet" fare and are priced accordingly.

My mom used to make an Oxtails soup to die for.

I know what you mean about Rabbit, I remember seeing them in the major chains, and now I rarely see them at all.

How much per pound for rabbit meat??

I would forget about buying rabbit meat. Just spend the $24 on ammo and go out and fill your freezer with bunnies. Out in Brentwood where you're at, there should be no shortage of rabbit!

if you were in san diego, you could shoot the rabbit, and save all the ticks for sale as a delicacy as well! theres about 2# of tick per 2# of rabbit!
