22lr AR15 Zero

I have a 16" barreled AR shooting 22lr in a dedicated upper.

it has a scope on it.

I usually shoot it @ a 25 yd indoor range. I have noticed my groups are very consistent, but depending on how close or far I have it away, it will shift a good 4"

What distance should I Zero @?

That shift is an artifact of a high slight over bore-line distance. Zero at the range you care about. If you zero at 10 yards you will shoot high at 25 and 50 yards.

If you also care about 50 yards, zero there and compare that with a 25 yards zero.

You will have to input some values. I assumed a 0.1 BC, a 2" sight height, and a 25 yard zero. Then I changed the zero to 50 yards for the second table below.

I tried a few other zero distances and would go with the 25 yard one, if it was me.

If you only shoot at 25yds then zero it there. Some Q's answer themselves.

Zero at 25yds, with AR sight height you will be a little high at 50 and a bit low at less than 25 yds. My 10/22 has a red dot with 1.5" sight height, I zero at 25 yds, it is pretty close to zero at 50 yds with HV 22LR ammo and then drop to 6-9" low at 100 yds pending conditions and ammo.

Assuming you have 2.5" sight height like most ARs you can expect to be around 0.5" high at 50 yds and 1.3" low at 10 yds.

Play with a ballistics calculator and test for yourself, always assume about 50-100fps lower velocity than quoted for ammo.

The range is an indoor range, so 25 yds max, but I do shoot it a 5, 7, 10, 15, 21, 25 yds

I try to do 25m not yds for my autoload rimfires, so when I do attend another Appleseed it's zeroed for their rimfire course.
