Had one on my Rem 597. Mostly slapped it on because to properly mount the scope on regular rings I'd need to remove the rear sight, and as a noob I know I need to do more iron sight shooting.
So it seemed like an OK compromise.
Obviously, you don't get to practice correct cheek weld, etc, and the scope gets into iron sight 'big pic' etc.
I think I'll get another Rem 597, so I can have one for iron sights, and one for proper scoped rifle practice. Maybe I'll get two more, so I can have a 3rd with the funky 'super high' mount bastardization worst of both worlds. Seriously, I just might. If I had to pic a config to take to let a bunch of others check it shooting it would probably be the super high mount.
