    20moa or 40moa?

I just picked up a Remington 40XB in 300 win mag. My intension is informal target shooting at 300 to 1000 yards. The rifle came with Leupold QRW 2 piece bases and I am going to replace them with a one piece rail at either 20moa or 40moa. I will be using a Leupold Mark 4 6.5-20X50 scope. Is 20moa going to get me out to 1000 yards? Is 40moa going to leave me with too little adjustment at the bottom end? Which base is better for my situation? I was also wondering if either base will give me a little more clearance between my barrel and the objective of my scope than I am getting with the Leupold bases. My current rings and bases don't give me enough clearance to use my flip up lens cover and I would rather not spring for higher rings if the base is going to raise the scope up a little.

40 moa is going to be overkill, especially with a flat shooter like the 300Win Mag. 20 moa should be more than enough to get out to 1000 yards with most decent scopes. Of the two, the 20 moa would likely have the greatest amount of clearance under the objective since it isn't tilted downward as much.

Would the 20 moa base have more clearance than the leupold QRW bases which I assume are 0 moa?

According to This Chart bullet drop for the .300 WSM at 500 yards is only 37 inches. With 20 moa you're going to have enough adjustment to move the impact point 100 inches, so I would think it would be plenty.
