    Kudos to Optics Planet

I had a Trijicon TA11 that came with dead tritium. They sent me a return tag and 2 day air a replacement unit. Checked it and mounted it up this afternoon. Going to sight it in at Richmond tomorrow!

Sounds like what I would expect from all vendors. Are others less professional than that?

That happens more often that you would think.

I know the world isn't perfect but damn, that's pretty screwed up for someone to try to do.

I'm glad you had good luck with them. My experience has been on more than one occasion I ordered items that showed to be in stock but they were actually back ordered. On both occasions when the item arrived it was shipped from the OEM, not OpticsPlanet. I called one of the manufacturers and was told OpticsPlanet does not keep inventory of their product on hand, but has them ship to the customer. And since OpticsPlanet does not have access to the OEM's inventory software that it is a flat out lie when OpticsPlanet says they have that particular item in stock, they have no way of knowing what is in stock or not until they send a request to the OEM to ship product for them.

                Greetings Horrendo,

Unfortunately your experience is not unique, but it does lack some accuracy so I thought I would try to clarify.

We definitely do not keep every product that we carry/offer on hand. It just isn't a sound business move. With over 800,000 products available but less than half being regularly moving items, we would have a massive warehouse with items collecting dust.

We definitely do keep inventory on hand. There is a link below the add to cart button on every product page. When you click that link, it either says "In Stock" or "estimated to ship..." followed by a timeframe. Sometimes it says "Call/chat/email for availability". So here is what that means:

If it says "In Stock" then we do have it in stock in our warehouse. "WAIT! But it said in stock and I ordered and then it was backordered!" Currently, our web orders are imported from our website several times a day. So it is possible that the item was in stock when you placed your order but had already been allocated to other orders by the time your order was imported. I know that isn't ideal, but it is the current format of our system. The solution is to place the order directly with our customer service department via phone or chat. That way your order is immediately in the system and receives allocation.

"Estimated to ship within..." means that while we do not have it in our warehouse, we have several other warehouses (manuf., distributors, etc) who are able and willing to ship the product on our behalf. This saves you time since we do not have to bring the product into stock ourselves and also saves you money since we are not upping our costs by stocking inventory. We do not have live inventory of everyone we work with, but we do have live inventory with several (namely the larger entities).

"Call/Chat/Email" means that we do not have a solid ETA for that product. It could be that we haven't ordered it in awhile, don't have live access to inventory, or there is a specific/unique situation occurring with that product.

So while your impression of our operation is not a flat out lie, it is not the whole story. Hopefully this helps fill in the missing parts.

If you have any questions or wish to discuss this further, please feel free to IM/PM us directly.

                -Matt S.

I'm not going to get into a pissing match with you but my experience and several of my friends is that when items show as being in stock they are not. It happens to frequently IMO for your explanation to be 100% accurate: that your system updates several times a day and that an item can be in stock when ordered but out a few hours later. I don't have any skin in this game and will continue to order from your company when you have the best price of if it is the only place I can get it. Feel free to respond but this is the last comment I'll make.
