Got my first rifle - Mosin!

After a while of fooling around with other peoples guns and working with my college student budget I finally stepped up and picked up a mosin!
So how did I do calguns?

Can't wait to shoot it this weekend

Congratulations on a finely crafted piece of engineering. Surely will be one shooting machine. Now go win some matches with it as I'm certain you will.

i got my first mosin about 2 1/2 years ago. i got more enjoyment in finding and cleaning up these rifles than anything sense. i have mostly moved on to other C&Rs now but i still love and shoot the mosins that i have. I will always own and shoot my mosins. have fun.

Either a dragoon, or more likely an ex-dragoon with that date.

Congrats - Be advised it becomes an addiction quickly!

However I do not have that problem, I can stop any time-I can stop any time-I can stop any time.....

that mosin has probably been in storage longer than most new Mosin owners have been alive. saved another one.

Exactly! Even worse is that I am moving to a freer state at the end of summer. Thats when things start to get reeaaaaal fun.

Anything I should do before I shoot it? Not really familiar with the procedure with older rifles

Old boltnis the same as a new bolt

Disassemble the bolt and clean it up. Clean up the whole rifle. Many articles on the internet on how to decosmo

Right on. I looked around and some people say that the head space should be checked before firing. Is that the proper step?

Also I'd like to refinish the stock, just something to do. I know that there were millions of these made but is this one of those that you wouldn't fiddle with?

I would check headspace before firing. Supposedly the armory checked it, but it never hurts to be sure yourself.

I would NOT touch that stock, it looks in great shape. Maybe just get some clear shellac to put a coat over it to reseal it, but I wouldn't strip it.

don't mess with the finish / leave it alone & read up on how to clean the rifle after shooting corrosive ammo. Down the road you'll be happy you did
