    Makarov question

I have a question about the Makarov pistols...for a long time several years ago Turners had Makarov 9x18 pistols for sale...I had a couple of them that were Bulgarian and really liked to shoot them..I no longer have them and have been advertising for one for a while. I was contacted by an out of state dealer that said I could have one shipped to an FF3 as it is C and R. I have tried to verify the C and R status since they were manufactured well withing 50 years. Then I hear that some dealers still sell them but they are not on the California roster so I'm really confused. I don't understand something coming to a FF3 C and R dealer and I think I can't have one shipped to a FFL that is not C and R or can I (again, not on the list)..

All I'm trying to do is pick one up...I'm sure one will come along private party and no sweat but the thing about C and R threw me as did the idea that some retailers might still be selling them...can anyone straighten out this old and very confused guy..

    Many thanks

To my knowledge - absolutely no C&R hand guns are to be shipped to CA FFL03. All out of state hand gun shipments have to be to FFL01, unless you physically go to LGS in Nevada or Arizona, buy it there and bring into CA (with subsequent registration with CA DOJ).

I didn't know I could buy a gun in Arizona or Nevada since I'm a California resident...I am in Arizona from time to time but didn't think they could sell me any firearms since I"m not a resident there.

Handguns have to go to 01ffl, unless you go get it out of state in person.

If you have 03ffl, you can get c&r firearms in person while out of state.

In CA C&R Handguns are not to be sent directly to an FFL03.
They have to go to a dealer FFL. This goes for PPT too.

If you have both your FFL03 and COE and transfer a C&R handgun at an FFL01 you still do DROS, pay fee's but do not have to wait 10 days.

An FFL03 is as the name says a Federal Firearms License. That is why you can purchase C&R firearms (including C&R pistols) when you are out of state and not have to be a resident of that state. When you return to the state you have 5 days to fill out the form below and send it in with $19 per handgun.

BTW the 9x18mm Pistol that Turners had last year was the Polish P-64. Though I am sure they had other makarov caliber handguns over the years.

Thanks for all the input....I have no FFL license and sure not worth the hassle for one little pistol...I'm leery of anything where I don't know the rules and there is any confusion...Local ftf with an ffl on a private party transfer is sure a simpler way to go for me.

Bulgarian Makarovs are not C&R and sadly, they are no longer on the California Drop List, so unfortunately, no dealer can ship a Bulgarian to California anymore.

The East German and Soviet models are still C&R (IJ-70's are not). The prices on those are pretty high these days.

Sampachi is correct. Bulgarian ones are not curio and relic. You need to find an east german one or a russian military one. And no.. they are not cheap!

                    I have a CZ82.
Bought it at JG Sales and brought it into CA....oh wait I mean .... KA.
I also got a ton of ammo for it before the ammo shortage.
The ejector retaining pin came out of it, but I bought a new one and staked it in.
A wonderful shooting pistol. One of my favorites.

I know, not a Makarov, but it is a 9x18.
